Located at 1715 Hillburn Ave NW, just six miles from downtown Grand Rapids, Blandford Nature Center spans 264 acres of diverse ecosystems, including forests, meadows, and wetlands. Established in 1968 by environmental educator Dr. Mary Jane Dockeray, the center began with a 17-acre donation from Victor Blandford. Over the years, it has expanded to become one of the largest urban nature centers in the United States. 

What to Experience at Blandford

  • Trails and Wildlife: Explore eight miles of scenic trails teeming with native flora and fauna. The Wildlife Education Center houses rehabilitated animals that serve as educational ambassadors. 

  • Historical Village: Step back in time by visiting the Historical Village, featuring preserved 19th-century buildings such as a log cabin, schoolhouse, and blacksmith shop.

  • Educational Programs: Participate in a variety of programs and workshops designed for all ages, from birdwatching and foraging classes to blacksmithing workshops.
